Eugen Kumičić House
...where heritage becomes a part of you.
Writer and politician Eugen Kumičić is one of the most famous inhabitants of Brseč. He was born in a house within the old walls with a magnificent view of the endless sea and the Kvarner islands, which ignited his imagination and set the stage for his future literary works. Thus, in many of his novels and short stories, we unmistakably recognize his birthplace, as well as the people whose lives are governed by the untamed sea and the turbulent 19th century. Today, the House of Eugen Kumičić houses an interpretation center with a library where you can get acquainted with the life and works of the famous writer, as well as the civic life of Brseč in the 19th century. On the ground floor of the house there is the Eugen K. Gallery, where exhibitions of an artistic character or those related to the history and traditional themes of Brseč and its surroundings are set up.
As part of the project, the birth house of Eugen Kumičić was reconstructed and a permanent exhibition was set up in it, which tells the story of Kumičić, Brseč and the surrounding area through a multimedia and interdisciplinary exhibition. Kumičić is the main focus of interpretation, and his birth house is the central place from which the city and its surroundings and other components of the eco-museum are explored.
